Nutrition Program

DICSA's Nutrition Program offers Congregate Meals at the Senior Centers, Home-Delivered Meals, and TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program).

Congregate Meals

Provides noon meals (evening meals at certain senior centers) to senior citizens in a congregate setting at eleven senior centers in Dickinson, Iron, and Baraga counties. This program helps seniors both financially and physically by providing nutrition education and nutritious meals. The senior centers are also gathering places for socialization and obtaining other services available for seniors. For more information click on senior centers.

Home Delivered Meals

Assists homebound seniors in meeting their nutritional needs by delivering meals to their homes up to six days a week. There is no charge, however donations from participants help to support the program. The suggested donation per meal is $2.50. To receive Home Delivered Meals, contact your local senior center. Meals will begin immediately, however an assessment must be completed in the participant's home to determine eligibility.

TEFAP - The Emergency Food Assistance Program:

Provides food purchased by the United States Department of Agriculture for eligible low-income households. Food is distributed two to four times per year at local senior centers. The food items change each time based on the availability of products. Some products distributed include beans, rice, canned meats, vegetables, fruits, and flour.
