Outreach Services
Outreach Services provide services and referrals through various programs to low-income
families and individuals who need assistance. To obtain cards for the CSFP
and MIC Programs, or to determine eligibility for Michigan Enrolls, Emergency
Services and the Weatherization Program, contact your county Outreach
Specialist.
CSFP - Commodity Supplemental Food
Program:
CSFP provides a supplemental food package to low-income senior citizens
60 and over each month. The food provided is canned juices, peanut butter,
canned vegetables, canned fruits, canned meats, powdered milk, cheese, cereals
and rice. The yearly income guidelines by household size are as follows:
1 person - $13,273
2 person - $17,797
3 person - $22,321
4 person - $26,845
MIC - Mothers Infants and Children:
If you are a pregnant mother or have a child 5 years or younger and are
not receiving WIC, you may qualify for this program. The MIC Program
provides the same supplemental food package as the above CSFP Program plus extra
juice and milk. The yearly income guidelines by household size are as
follows:
1 person - $18,889
2 person - $25,327
3 person - $31,765
4 person - $38,203
5 person - $44,641
6 person - $51,079
TEFAP - The
Emergency Food Assistance Program:
Distributes food purchased by the USDA for eligible low-income households
two to four times per year at local senior centers. Some products
distributed include beans, rice, canned meats, vegetables, fruits and
flour. The income guidelines are the same as CSFP. No card is needed
but you will need to sign a form at distribution regarding your income
eligibility.
Limited funds are available to assist with various emergency needs
for senior citizens and low-income families. These services may include
furnace repair, water heater replacement, roof repairs, payment of an energy
bill or partial rent assistance. Income guidelines vary according to the
services requested. Budget counseling is provided to help prevent future
emergencies.
Assists income eligible households (renters and homeowners) in
reducing heating costs. A computerized energy audit determines what type
of home weatherization services are needed and any safety issues to be
addressed. The household must also make a commitment to reducing their
energy consumption. Services provided typically include insulation,
caulking, and water heater wrap.The work is completed by local licensed
contractors.
Kids ages 8 to 15 can participate in a week long summer class that
teaches basic principles of art. The artwork they complete is framed and
ready for display at the end of class. The students are also invited to
exhibit their work at local art shows.
